How I saved money and reduced waste preparing for my baby with Vinted

Paige, from the Wales Recycles team shares her tips for using Vinted to avoid buying brand new and save money for her new baby:

"I found shopping for my baby overwhelming when I fell pregnant with my first. For such a small human, they sure do need a lot of things!

A big part of preparing for the new baby was to gather his wardrobe and textiles. This will be a breeze, I naively thought, until I realised the mountain of items he would need.

He will need vests, bodysuits, socks, cardigans, swaddles, hats, leggings....etc. the list felt never-ending!

So, we scouted the high street for some inspiration, I couldn't believe the cost of items that would only fit the baby for a few months! This is when my Vinted journey began...

This is a snapshot of some of the purchases that I made on Vinted, I checked my order history to be accurate with the clothing and prices.

When searching for clothing items, I filtered the feed to 'New with tags,' 'New without tags' and occasionally 'Very good' if I wanted to see more options.

Another tip is to check the seller's profile for other items before purchasing, to see if more clothes can be created as a 'bundle' purchase, this is great for saving on postage costs and sometimes sellers have a bundle discount that can vary from 5-20% off the whole purchase.

  • x2 moses basket mattress protectors £15

From that snapshot of items, I’d saved £37.96 and that’s just a dent in the total amount of items I ended up buying for him.

There is a risk when purchasing from people you don’t know online, however by checking sellers profile ratings and reviews, you can gain some comfort if their profile is 4-5 stars and well-reviewed.

If the item(s) isn’t up to standard, you can provide feedback. I did this once, I uploaded images to show the items weren’t as advertised (I had been given a size too small when I was searching for baby clothes in 6-9 months, I had been sent 0-3 months) and was given a full refund. One bad purchase out of the many bundles of other successes, is a risk worth taking."
